William (Bill) Salvato, 85, of Boca Raton, FL passed away on December 7, 2020, after a short illness.
Born and raised in the Bronx, NYC, Bill enlisted in the US Navy in 1952, during the Korean War conflict. He served onboard the USS Grand Canyon as a Coxswain, operating landing craft and the Captain’s Gig.
After the Navy, he returned to NYC where he met his bride of 62 years, Jean Peluso. Bill and Jean were married on October 4, 1958. Shortly after, they moved upstate to Rockland County, where they raised their four children until moving to Boca Raton, FL in 1978.
He earned his PhD (Paper hanging Degree) in NYC as a union wallpaper hanger.
Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor and his unwavering devotion to his family. He was lovingly referred to as Pop. He was always on time (which means early) and expected the same of others. For the past several years, Bill would tell everyone he met, that he suffered from CRS (can’t remember S___) as a result of A.G.E.(old age). He always made people laugh and made everyone feel welcome in his home. He enjoyed spending time onboard the family boat Vertigo in Key West and the Bahamas. Also, the summers in North Carolina visiting NY relatives was something he loved. As a life long NY Giants fan, it was great to see the Giants win for him on his last Sunday. Bill and Jean attended daily mass at St. Ambrose Church.
Bill is survived by his wife Jean, four children: Bill (Jackie), Jeannie (BL), Rich (Robyn), John (Micki) and nine grandchildren: Chase, Sammy, Billy, Bryan, Brett, Brooke, JT, Shea, and Bree.
A viewing will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020, between 2-6 pm at Gary Panoch Funeral Home, 6140 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL. A funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 15 at 9:45am, 380 South Federal Highway, Deerfield Beach, FL.
