He was born in Urbana, Illinois in 1934 to William Paul Dismukes, Sr., Ph.D. and Ruth Hood Dismukes. In 1937, after his father finished his doctoral studies at the University of Illinois, the family moved to Coral Gables, Florida where his father took a job as an assistant professor of French at the Univerity of Miami. Bill graduated Salutatorian from Coral Gables Senior High School in 1952. He went on to pursue his undergraduate studies at Vanderbilt University in Nashville,Tennessee where he graduated with honors (Magna Cum Laude) in 1956. He then went to study medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating with a focus on Internal Medicine and Hematology in 1960. Bill spent his time completing his Internship, Residency, and Fellowship between Jackson Memorial Hospital and the Coral Gables VA Hospital in Miami and Coral Gables, respectively. He earned his board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1972. He served in the Florida Army Reserve National Guard (FLARNG) 35th Surgical Hospital, Mobile Army from 1962-1969, and received an Honorable Discharge with a rank of Major.

Bill met the love of his life, Sue Coble, while she was working as a Registered Nurse and he was practicing medicine at Victoria Hospital in Miami. He and Sue were married in 1967. He worked in private medical practice in the Miami, Florida area from 1965-1992. Semi-retired, he worked as a Locum Tenens temporary physician accross six states from 1993-1999. He spent his retirement between Daytona Beach, Florida and Asheville, North Carolina until moving back to Florida in 2019 following the passing of his wife of 51 years, Sue, in 2018.

Bill enjoyed sailing, "critters" of all kinds, his beloved football teams: the University of Miami Hurricanes and the Miami Dolphins, reunions with his CGHS class of '52 classmates, practicing medicine, attending and participating in the activities of his local church (St. Philip's Episcopal in Coral Gables, Grace Episcopal in Asheville), and being of help and assistance to just about everyone he met. Bill is survived by a son, William Scott Dismukes (Margarita); daughter, Judy Dismukes McLaren (Jeff); and four grandsons, Ryan, Jake, Daniel, and David.

The family is having a private graveside service at Woodlawn Park Cemetery South in Miami. Bill will be buried with Sue and his parents, Ruth and Bill Sr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
