Viola Lorraine “Laurie” Bridges, 80, of Boynton Beach, Florida passed away on Saturday, August 15th, 2020. Laurie was born on October 7th, 1939 in Garden City, NY.
Laurie “a.k.a. Lor” was a loving and loyal wife to Dicky for 51 years. They raised four strong, successful, caring daughters dedicated to carrying on their family values. Dicky, Laurie and their forever loved companion, Cupcake, enjoyed traveling across the country in their RV for 15 years. Laurie especially loved spending time in Washington, Oregon, California, and her favorite gambling spots in Las Vegas and Biloxi before returning to Florida to settle down in Boynton Beach, FL.
Laurie was known for her piercing blue eyes, natural blonde hair and her love for jewelry. Everyone came to appreciate Laurie’s unique sense of humor, strong personality, and exceptional organizational skills. Like her mother, Laurie always remembered to send birthday and anniversary cards written with her personal message that perfectly expressed her feelings. Laurie did an amazing job continuing on Dicky’s habit of maintaining meticulous records, exceeding everyone’s expectations – including her own. Until her passing she continued shopping, working, checking up on her daughters, taking care of Cupcake and using her exceptional sense of direction to navigate backroads and shortcuts to get around town.
One of Laurie’s favorite pastimes was sitting on her front patio along with Cupcake, entertaining friends and passersby - pockets filled with doggie treats.
Laurie will be remembered for her compassion, love and pride for her family, attention to detail and her quick wit along with the tradition of enjoying family gatherings at a good buffet. Laurie will be greatly missed by her family and friends!
Laurie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard “Dicky” Bridges, parents Nils Tage and Lillian Johanson, brother Ronald Johanson. She is survived by four devoted daughters and their spouses: Karen and Rod Risse, Debbie and Osmany Periu, Paula and Jim Gibson, Gail and former spouse Todd Keenan and fiancée’ Danny Emmitt; her loving grandchildren Austin (wife Rebecca), Taylor, Sabrina, Melissa, Ashley (husband William), Nicholas (wife Jocelle), Khristian, great granddaughter Rose and soon-to-be-born great grandson.
