Mildred (Millie) Rawlings, 85, Boca Raton, FL, passed away on Monday, November 15th peacefully in her sleep.
Millie was born in Pontiac MI, February17, 1936. She graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1954 and attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables.
She enjoyed working at Grand Truck Western Railroad so much, she worked there for 34 years as a telegrapher.
To relax, Millie enjoyed being involved in the Sun Shiners Golf League where she even scored a hole in one. Millie also enjoyed traveling around the world.
She retired to Chillicothe, OH and started with another passion, her 2 red cabooses. She spearheaded a committee to save the cabooses in the Yacatangee Park where they were later turned into the Chillicothe Railroad Museum where she was the secretary - treasurer. She also volunteered at the Pump House Art Gallery and the Chillicothe – Ross County Visitors Bureau.
While living in Chillicothe, she attended Tyler Methodist Church and was a member of the YMCA. Her biggest passion, her love of her family, called her to move to Boca Raton, FL, where she lived the remainder of her life.
She is survived by her brother Everett Rawlings (Cristina) and her beloved nieces, Cindy Walls (Dan). Debbie Rose and Julie Karr (Jeff) along with several grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arnold Rawlings and Helene Lincoln, her brother John Rawlings, her aunt Mildred Saunders Long and her uncles Bill, Herman and Ernest Drecoll.
There will be a private family ceremony. Her remains will be interred next to her beloved aunt Mildred at the Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis, IN.
