Michael Prunetti Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael F. Prunetti, 77, of Boca Raton, FL, who peacefully departed this life on March 15, 2024. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Michael's life was one of service, dedication, and profound love for both his country and his passions. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity that touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Michael is survived by his loving cousin, Kathy Myers, his devoted niece, Pam Kabati, and several cherished cousins. His absence will be deeply felt by all who held him dear.

Michael's journey was one of remarkable dedication and service to his country and his profession. After proudly serving in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War, Michael embarked on a career with the New York Horse Racing Authority that spanned four decades. His tenure with the Authority was marked by integrity, diligence, and a deep passion for the sport. From his early days as an entry clerk to his later roles as claims clerk, placing judge, and timer, Michael's expertise and dedication were evident to all who worked alongside him. He was later appointed as assistant racing secretary, a position he held with honor and distinction until his retirement.

Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a man of diverse interests and passions. He had a deep love for thoroughbred racehorses and a keen interest in ancient history. His travels took him to destinations far and wide, from the pyramids of Egypt to the rolling hills of Italy, his family's ancestral homeland. Closer to home, Michael was an active member of the Boca Raton Italian Club and devoted his time to volunteering at Gumbo Limbo, the Mae Volen Senior Center, and the Boca Raton Community Hospital. His unwavering faith and devotion to the Catholic Church were evident in his role as an usher and active participant in small groups.

A devoted sports enthusiast, Michael was a loyal fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and his love for the team never wavered. However, above all else, Michael will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and gentle spirit. His compassion touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.

A funeral mass to honor and celebrate Michael's life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause that was dear to Michael's heart.

Though Michael may no longer walk among us, his memory will continue to shine brightly, guiding us with the warmth of his love and the wisdom of his spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
