MAURICE G. SMITH
Devoted child of God, loving son, caring big brother, kind uncle, and thoughtful friend, Maurice G Smith will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and neighbors.
Sixty-two years ago, Maurice Smith was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on October 26th, 1958. His story continues in to Coral Gables and Miami, Florida, where he grew up and attended Elementary, Junior High, and High School. In the late 70’s, he headed west as many did at that time and went to Los Angeles and after a tour of southern California he ended up in San Diego, California. He worked as a civilian grounds-keeper for the Naval Base. He resided in California for over 20 years before moving back to Florida to live near and with family. Upon his return, he lived in Pompano Beach for many years and finally found his way to Boca Raton. This was until Jesus called him to his eternal home with our Lord and Savior on January 26th, 2021.
Maurice loved people and enjoyed socializing and fellowship. His artistic eyes enjoyed many of the magnificent wonders God has created, especially in the great outdoors. He had a strong faith and a loving heart caring deeply for God, family, and nature. His photography, artwork paintings, and sketches expressed a few of his God-given talents to capture and share the beauty in this world.
To just a few, he was affectionately nicknamed “Gary” by family, and he will forever lovingly be remembered by his adoring mother, Armonde a.k.a. “Monnie” and his two younger sisters Jacqui and Debbie. He also will be dearly missed by: his three nieces Christina, Angela a.k.a. “Nikki,” and Erika; his Aunt Myrna and Uncle Don; Aunt Norma; cousins Angela and James Thomas, and their families; cousins Dawn and Amy; and many of his church family and friends. Some of Maurice’s very special friends were Dia, Eugene, Sean, Andrea, Mark, Tom, and Jacki. There are many more that held a special place in his life journey and too many to list them all.
Those who knew him knew he loved the Lord and God’s word with all of his heart. He treasured his Calvary Church and church activities: especially the Men’s Group; Bible Studies; Cancer Care; 4Kids Ministry; and Celebrate Recovery to name a few. He also prayed with many friends from Choosing Joy and the Focus - Singles Community groups.
