Indira Kanubhai Patel, 84, of Parkland, Florida passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 6th, 2021.
Indira was born in Motikoral, India on September 3, 1937, daughter of the late Bhikhubhai and Chanchalben Patel. She is survived by her husband, Kanubhai Patel, her four daughters Miksha, Krupa, Bhavana, Sheetal, their spouses, eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by five siblings and their spouses and numerous nieces and nephews.
Indira graduated with a degree in psychology from Sir L.A. Shah Law College. She emigrated to the US in 1976 to provide a better life for her family. Indira worked multiple jobs until she found her career at the US Post Office where she worked for 20 diligent years. Her leadership inspired others to seek out her guidance and counsel on various work and personal issues. Indira’s devotion to hard work was evident in the fact that she never missed a day of work, garnering her various commendations.
Following her retirement in 1998, Indira spent her time traveling the world (42 countries) with her devoted husband, Kanubhai, and spending time with all her beloved grandkids. Indira was a legendary cook and nothing pleased her more than to entertain family and friends via gastronomy. Wherever Indira was… is where people gathered. Her superpower was her ability to whip up a mouth-watering feast for 50 plus people in the blink of an eye, leaving them wanting more. One of her other passions was knitting, and you would often find her making colorful blankets, hats, and gloves for her family.
Her religion and traditions were an integral part of her life, as were the values and customs she instilled in all. Even though Indira is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in her family and friends. Indira was known for her love of flowers and she never stepped out of her home without a flower in her hair. So today, as we say our goodbyes, the flower symbolizes our love of an incredible wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved universally and will be sorely missed.
