Helen Tousignant Obituary

Helen Marie Tousignant, 89, of Boca Raton, FL passed away May 23, 2020. Helen was born on December 20, 1930 in Faribault, MN to Fred and Antoinette Tousignant. There were 8 children, 2 which died during the influenza outbreak. They grew up on a farm in Faribault with cows, chickens, horses, a pig, dog, etc. The family worked hard and shared food with others, especially during the Great Depression. After graduating from high school, Helen decided to become a nurse. Her diploma was even signed by one of the original Mayo brother. She kept in close contact with her nursing friends, especially Irene Krippner, who visited her every year in Florida. She move to Boca Raton, Florida in 1960, where she raised her daughter, Jennifer Ann, whom she loved with every ounce of her being. She worked many jobs to ensure that Jennifer went to a good school, traveled and went to college. Over the years, she worked for opthamalogists: Dr Neider, Dr. Chua, and Dr. Bruno and taught patients hoew to put in their contact lenses. Throughout her lifetime, she would strive to help others. She would find ways to provide food, clothing and homes for the migrants. She would give eye glasses to those in need and often sent boxes of glasses down to St Immaculata in Peru to help the poor. She taught her family to help others. Many times, when she and her sister, Mary would come home from "garaging," they would wash the clothes and get the grandkids to sort and fold them, then wrap them up in ribbons to bring to those in need. She taught her grandkids financial responsibility by creating "The Band of Grandma" where she would encourage them to save their money. she would even give them interest. She found ways to give them music lessons and even would drive them there. When they were sick at school, she would pick tem up, have a pillow, blanket, Ghardettos and water battle ready for them when they got in the car. Mom, you are celebrating with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven and meeting all the people you  have touched. We will carry on your work of the Lord and know that you will always be with us in our hearts. Without a doubt, Mom, when you Lord welcomed you home, he said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Helen is survived by her beloved daughter, Jennifer Tousignant, loving nieces and nephews; Brian (Ginny) Bussen, Mary Helen (Mitch) Brickson, Jackie Gorora and many great-nieces and nephews. Helen enjoyed helping others. She was a volunteer with the Ministry of Good Shephard and donated lots of items to Adopt a Family. She loved to entertain and will always be remembered for making Christmas a special event. Family will receive friends, Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 1-2pm with a 2pm funeral service at the funeral home.
