Elena "Elly" Haydic Sokolov

Elly Haydic Sokolov, age 84 of Boynton Beach, passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2022. She was born to the late Vasil Sokolov and Zoya Sokolova on June 23, 1938, in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Upon graduating from music conservatory in Sofia, Elly joined a women’s music quintet, and they played venues at numerous locations around the world. Her travels sparked a desire to live in America, and it would lead to a bold decision that would impact the rest of her life.  She packed up her two daughters and her mother and stepped into the unknown.  After spending one year in the Traiskirchen, Austria immigration camp, she finally received sponsorship to come to the US.  Elly and her family would all become US citizens and settle in Boynton Beach, FL.
Elly attended school to learn English and went on to become an actuary.  She turned that into a career with Lynn Insurance in Boca Raton, working there for over twenty years before retiring.  When she wasn’t working long hours and raising her family, she was busy attending to her lifelong passion of playing music.  Elly had the honor of playing contra bass in the orchestras of the Palm Beach Pops, Sunrise Pops, Sugar Pops and Pompano Pops. She was always recognized in the orchestra for her beaming smile. 
Elly was preceded in death by her mother, Zoya Sokolova, her father, Vasil Sokolov and her brother, Ilia Sokolov.  She is survived by her two daughters, May Thomas (Paul), Zoya Haydic; her three grandchildren, Peter Reynolds, Sofia Thomas and Ethan Thomas; other close family and friends including Nick Haydic and Chuck Bowman. 
A memorial for Elly will be held September 24th, 12pm noon at Gary Panoch Funeral Home, 6140 N Federal Hwy, Boca Raton, FL.
