Douglas J. Hawk, age 64, Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on February 4th, 2020 after a 4 1/2 year battle with cancer. With the help of Heartland Hospice Services, he was lovingly cared for in the home of his sister and brother-in-law in Marion Oh, for the last 8 months of his life.
He was born Dec. 23, 1955 in Marion, OH to the late Donald S. and Edith (Kightlinger) Hawk. A 1974 graduate of Marion Harding High School, Doug had resided in Florida since 1980. He retired in December 2017 from Centura Paint Mfg. in Boca Raton, after 32 years of dedicated service in a job he said never felt like work.
A kind, unassuming, generous, trustworthy and gentle man, loved by many, Doug leaves behind a host of family and many friends who have become like family to him. He will be dearly missed by his sister, Becky (Dan) Gorenflo, nieces and nephews- Cory (Ashlee) Ward, Jeff (Sarah) Gorenflo, Lindsay (Jeremy) Hutchinson, Farin Miley (J.P. Cocherl), brother-in-law Gary Miley, and 8 great nieces and nephews.
Doug loved to scuba dive and golf, and even had two holes in one. As a NASCAR fan he also enjoyed attending the races. He was proud of being a 50+ gallon platelet donor. Doug was known for his generosity, dependability and for helping others any way he could. A man of faith, Doug attended Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Darlene Hawk Miley.
A memorial service will be held, March 7, 2020 at Gary Panoch Funeral Home, 6140 N. Federal Hwy., Boca Raton, FL 33487. Doug’s family will greet friends from 1:00-3:00, with service to honor his life at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Doug’s name to the non-profit organization, Jack the Bike Man, 2406 Florida Ave., West Palm Beach, FL, 33401 or Heartland Hospice Services, 685 Delaware Ave., Ste. 300, Marion, OH 43302.
