Obituary

WILLIAM SLOAN WELD, age 74, passed away Sat., July 13,2013 at Hospice in Bethesda Hospital, Boynton Beach after a 12 month fight with lung cancer. Bill was born in NY, NY. to the late William Hamilton Gibson, III and his wife, Marguerite Walker Rogers and raised in Garrison-on-Hudson, NY by his grandmother, Marguerite Walker Rogers. In his teens, Bill relocated to Winnetka, IL, where he attended New Trier High School, Northwestern Military Academy and then 4 years in the Air Force. Bill and JoAnne moved to Florida in 1985. As a semi retiree Bill enjoyed his employment at the Two Georges Restaurant and later as Special Events Manager and Sales Associate for Jazzsea Cruises. He was active in the Elks Lodge #2676 and #1352, the American Legion Post #164, the Lake Worth Moose #994 and FOE #3944. Bill designed some props and/or performed at the Lake Worth Playhouse, Palm Beach Dramaworks, Delray Beach Playhouse, the Village Players and he assisted with programs and events for Gratitude House, Inc. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, his father, his mother and his sister, Ellen Walker Perlitz. Bill is survived by his half brother, Anthony Herrick Gibson, his loving wife, JoAnne Kriesant Weld, children, Michael William Weld and Laura Marguerite Findley, grandchildren Erin Marguerite Findley, Reece Gibson Weld, newborn Chloe Sloan Weld, cousins Marguerite Paradis, Paula Arnold Krimsky, nieces Nancy Elizabeth Schintzius, Courtney Brennan Schintzius and other nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends he kept close to his heart. Funeral services will be Mon., July 29, 2013 at 1:00p at the South Florida National Cemetery followed by a service and celebration of Bill's life at the West Palm Beach Elks Lodge #1352, 6188 Belvedere Rd.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William S. Weld to one of the above organizations or to Hospice of the Palm Beaches.
