IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William "Bill" R
Smyth Jr.
January 31, 1929 – February 7, 2024
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of William "Bill" R. Smyth Jr., who peacefully departed from this world on February 7, 2024, in Delray Beach, Florida, at the age of 95. Bill's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will forever be cherished.
Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Paulette Smyth (nee Lee), with whom he shared a deep and enduring love.
Bill's legacy lives on through his six children, seven grandchildren, two step-children, and four step-grandchildren, all of whom were profoundly touched by his presence and wisdom. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family, always offering guidance with his steadfast counsel and a touch of his dry sense of humor. In addition to his immediate family, Bill leaves behind a host of relatives, friends, and acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eleanor Smyth (nee Churchman), and his brother, Frederick Smyth.
Bill attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point class of '54 and always wore his ring with great pride. He became a lieutenant on an ammunition ship in the Pacific for the US Navy. After serving our country in the US Navy, he earned his master's degree from Georgetown Univ. Bill always credited his success in business and life to Kings Point for instilling the strength of character and discipline. Bill's life was marked by his love for the outdoors, a passion for travel, and a deep appreciation for water sports, particularly boating and scuba diving. Whether exploring new destinations or simply enjoying the tranquility of the sea, he found solace and joy in nature's wonders.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Bill's life on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. A service honoring his remarkable life will commence at 2:00 PM, where memories will be shared, tears shed, and laughter echoed in remembrance of a life well-lived followed by military honors from the US Navy Honor Guard.
Though Bill may no longer walk among us, his legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in eternal peace, forever embraced by the warm memories of those who loved him dearly.
Donations may be made in memory of William Smyth Jr to Trustbridge Hospice .
