William Bell Sr., affectionately known as “Pop,” passed away on August 9, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on June 27, 1944, in Queens, New York. Bill raised his family in Long Valley, New Jersey, where he and his wife, Maryellen, built their home and family together. Later, after retiring, Bill and Maryellen enjoyed splitting their time between Manasquan, New Jersey, and Jupiter, Florida, where they made many wonderful memories.
Bill was a hardworking and dedicated man who was an engineer at Bell Labs, where he worked for 12 years before continuing his career with Verizon. He was a graduate of Pratt Institute and went on to earn his master’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He retired at the age of 59, allowing him more time to enjoy the things he loved and, most importantly, his family.
“Pop” loved the outdoors and staying active. He enjoyed bike riding, shooting pool, and spending time at the beach. But nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his five grandchildren, who were a very special part of his life. Avery, Emerson, Paige, Logan, and Harrison will forever carry the memories and love of their beloved Pop in their hearts.
Bill was a devoted husband to his wife, Maryellen Bell, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family that was his greatest accomplishment. He was a proud father to his two sons, Paul Bell and Bill Bell Jr., and a cherished father-in-law to Alison and Amy.
Bill will be remembered for his love of family, his hardworking spirit, his intelligence, and the simple pleasures he enjoyed throughout his life. His greatest legacy is the family he loved so deeply and the countless memories he created with them.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Maryellen; his sons, Paul and Bill Jr.; daughters-in-law, Alison and Amy; and his five grandchildren, Avery, Emerson, Paige, Logan, and Harrison.
Though he will be deeply missed, Bill “Pop” Bell will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. His family will forever cherish the laughter, love, and memories he gave them.
Services will be announced at a later date.
