IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilfred Ashby
Price
August 23, 1925 – April 4, 2020
Wilfred A Price, in his 95th year, joined hands with our Lord at noon on Saturday April 4, 2020
Born August 23, 1925 and known as "W.A.", he proudly served in the Army/Air Corps in World War II – an experience which became a significant part of W.A.'s personal character and life story.
Educated at William and Mary College in Virginia and the University of Alabama, W.A. was discharged from the Military and soon thereafter became an entrepreneur. W.A. credits his "physics" education as a core contributor to his life's successes.
Beginning in the early 1950's, W.A built southern Virginia's largest distributor and retailer of GE appliances and was a leader in the rural electrification/technology expansion during the 50's, 60's and 70's. Additionally W.A. developed real estate for families in the rural Farmville community.
A personal hobby was family genealogy. W.A. was exceptionally proud the Price Family was one of America's "First Families of Virginia", one of the original families to come to "the new world" and settle in Jamestown, Virginia. He was excited that he was able to trace his lineage back to the early 1500's in Wales.
W.A. officially "retired" in 1980 to do the things he loved; fishing, country-dancing, and expanding his love and knowledge of investing. For those who know him well, investing was a core part of his being; generosity making up the rest. He loved to teach and pass his knowledge to family, friends, and anyone loving to learn. Through his passion, we came to know many of W.A.'s favorite idioms, such as "Do the math!"
In 1991, W.A. moved to Florida and met the "Catch of His Life", surviving wife, Peggy Shearin Price. They have been together 29 years. W.A. & Peggy's love and partnership was remarkable and adored by so many friends, neighbors and family. Peggy and W.A. had deep respect for each other to make decisions that benefited themselves and so many others.
W.A.'s character goes so far beyond patriotism, honesty, integrity, mentoring, generosity and the love of his life, Peggy. W.A.'s legacy is deep. A proud U.S. Veteran, mentor, personal financial "coach" and unconditional generosity to everyone he met.
Wilfred A Price is survived by his wife, Peggy Shearin Price, sister Edith Vaughan, nieces Diana Vaughan and Debbie Vaughan, life-long friend Jimmy Coleman, step sons David Shearin and Phillip Shearin and their spouses/partners Randal W Purgason and Doreen M. Shearin. W.A.'s daughter Laura Leigh Dixon pre-deceased W.A. in 1993.
Burial at the South Florida National Cemetery is pending upon reopening of burial services. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to VITAS Hospice.
