IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Walter Daniel
Mooney
March 14, 1956 – May 10, 2024
Walter Daniel Mooney (March 14, 1956 - May 10, 2024)
Known to all as Danny Mooney, he was 68 years old and called Delray Beach, Florida home. He died on May 10, 2024 after a very quick and aggressive fight with small-cell lung cancer.
He was born in Medford, Massachusetts and spent his summers in Duxbury. He graduated from Medford High School, joined the Naval Reserves in the early 80s, and spent most of his career as a Teamster. He lived in Hanson, Massachusetts from 1994 to 2018, where he could often be found fishing at Oldham Pond or out on his boat in Snug Harbor. In Delray Beach, he played golf, went to the beach, attended concerts, and went out to eat with his sister and friends (shout out to Piezano's for making him the perfect steak and cheese). Danny was known for his quick wit and sense of humor and as a result he was able to make so many feel loved and included.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Rita and Bill Mooney of Duxbury, brother Jay Mooney of Weymouth, sister Kathy O'Sullivan of Duxbury, and brother-in-law Barry Stamper of Boca Raton. He is survived by his sister Maureen Stamper of Boca Raton and his brother Barry Mooney and wife Terry of Everett, his daughter Danielle Carey-Mooney and husband Adam of Bridgewater, his daughter Kerin Healy and husband Tim of Hanover, their mother Patti Mooney of Braintree, his girlfriend and best friend Barbara Dunnican of Delray Beach, FL, his in-laws Jean Mooney of Weymouth and John O'Sullivan of Duxbury, and so many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on June 15 at Our Lady of Assumption Church (40 Canal St. Marshfield, MA) followed by a celebration of life that will be announced at the church. There will be a celebration in Florida when the snowbirds return in early fall at the clubhouse at Sabal Pines.
Donations made in Danny's name would be greatly appreciated. Consider the American Cancer Society (http://donate.cancer.org) to help find a cure for small-cell lung cancer or to Camp Wing and the Duxbury Stockade (http://crossroadsma.org) where his kids spent so many wonderful summers.
