Thomas J. Giddings, 90, of Jupiter, Florida, formerly of Boca Raton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on August 19, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas was the son of the late Arthur and Ann Giddings. He was one of six children and was predeceased by his siblings Arthur Giddings, Joan (Giddings) Strong, Joseph Giddings, and James Giddings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Frances "Pinky" Giddings, his devoted daughter Dr. Annmarie Giddings-Dilbert, and son Thomas Giddings and his wife Beth Giddings. He was a proud grandfather to Charles Haberman, Alyssa Haberman, Austin Dilbert, Connor Giddings, and Katelyn Giddings. Thomas is also survived by his brother Robert Giddings and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Thomas was a proud native of Brooklyn, where he attended St. Ephrem Catholic School and Fort Hamilton High School. He later earned his Associates degree from John Jay College in Manhattan. From 1954 to 1956, he honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps.
He began his career as an installer with the New York Telephone Company before following his calling as a New York City firefighter in 1962. Thomas served with dedication and courage at Engine 278 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, was promoted to Lieutenant and served at Engine 214 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, and later transferred to Engine 155 in Staten Island, where he served until his retirement in 1985. His decades of service exemplified bravery, loyalty, and compassion for his fellow New Yorkers.
Thomas continued a life of public service as a Supervisor for FEMA, where he worked tirelessly to help communities across the country, finally retiring at the age of 80.
In retirement, Thomas moved to Florida and eventually settled in Jupiter with his daughter Annmarie, enjoying time with family, sharing stories of the firehouse, and proudly watching his grandchildren grow.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, 10:00 AM at St. Jude Catholic Church, 21689 Toledo Rd., Boca Raton, FL 33433.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas's memory to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY 10306—a cause close to his heart.
Thomas J. Giddings will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His legacy of service, strength, and unwavering love for his family lives on in all who knew him.
