Biography
Sue Murdzak, 90, of Boynton Beach, FL, died peacefully Dec. 6, 2011. She was born in Horna, Slovakia to John and Susan Charney Basanda, the 8th of 9 children on April 27, 1921 and came to the USA in 1938. She married Andrew Hockicko in Youngstown, OH on Feb. 22, 1941. He died in 1977. She then married George Murdzak, also of Youngstown, on May 16, 1981. They moved to Boynton Beach in 1982 where George died in 2005. She was a former parishioner of St. Matthias Church in Youngstown until she moved to Florida. She then joined St. Mark Catholic Church in Boynton Beach until her death. She was also a member of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association.
She is survived by her three loving children: Father Charles Hawkins, pastor of Ascension Catholic Church, Boca Raton, FL, James (Debbie) of Youngstown, OH and Mary Jean Hockicko of Boynton Beach. Additionally, she leaves behind two grandsons, Matthew (Lindsay) Hawkins of Farmington Hills, MI, and Brian Hawkins of Youngstown, as well as three great-grandchildren: Aidan, Adelaide and Annalise Hawkins.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Dec. 12, at 12pm noon, in Ascension Church, 7250 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton. Following the Mass of Christian Burial, she will be interred at the Boynton Beach Cemetery Mausoleum.
