Robert B. Cummings, 82, passed away on Wednesday, October 3 in Boca Raton, FL. He was born in Portland, ME on May 16, 1936. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Muriel Farr Cummings and Lawrence Cummings.
Bob spent four years in the Air Force and then graduated from Northeastern University in Boston. he worked for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Charles Stark Draper Laboratory in Cambridge, MA, providing navigation for Apollo Moon Project. He also worked on the Deep Submergence Rescue Vehicles on Coronado Island in California and other projects for the Navy Seals. He and his wife, Fran, traveled extensively making friends with people from all over the world.
After retiring to Boca Raton, FL, he enjoyed biking, scuba diving, skiing, dancing, golf, and watching the loons on Little Sebago Lake in Maine where he and Fran, spent their summers. Bob and Fran's favorite vacation of all was scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife, partner and friend, Frances O'Neil Cummings, children; Pamela Peltier of Watertown, MN, Robert S Cummings of Hingham, MA, Mathew Gannon of Rockland, MA, Sean Gannon of Boston, MA, Brian Gannon of San Francisco, CA, grandchildren; Jessica Paulson of Cannon Falls, MN, Sean Peltier of Brookdale, FL, Michael Chittendon of Gardner, MA, Joseph Gannon of Gardner, MA, Jacob Gannon of Rockland, MA, Alex Gannon of San Francisco, CA, Katerina Gannon of San Francisco, CA, great-grandchildren; Sterling Paulson of Cannon Falls, MN, Thomas Paulson of Cannon Falls, MN, brother Lawrence Cummings of East Liverpool, OH and sister Penny Joyce of Standish, ME.
Bob wished in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in his memory to The Southern Poverty Law Center, 403 Washington Ave, Montgomery, AL 36104
