Obituary

Richard "Rip" Green
February 27, 1945 – January 15, 2014

Rip, as he was known to his family and friends, was the second child of Ethel (Kaplan) and Irving Green. He was born on February 27, 1945, in Manhattan, New York, and raised in the Bronx. He moved to Florida as an adult, where he met and married his wife, Sandra Polhemus Utsumi, on January 21, 1989. Prior to retirement, Rip was in upper management as a contract negotiator. He was a history buff, read extensively and traveled widely with his wife, both in the United States and abroad. Rip was proud of his service in the United States Air Force in the early 1970s.
Rip was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma in April 2009 and underwent a stem cell transplant. He went into remission for four years. The lymphoma returned but this time he was unable to withstand the chemotherapy necessary for a second transplant. He slipped away peacefully at 11:05 p.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, surrounded by those who loved him most and those whom he loved most.
His parents preceded him in death, Irving in 1994 and Ethel in 1999. Rip is survived by his wife, Sandra of Boca Raton; brother and sister-in-law, Daniel and Joyce Green of Nanuet, New York; a niece and a nephew; and too many friends to count. His memorial service will be held Thursday, January 23, at the First United Methodist Church, 9087 Glades Road, Boca Raton, and his ashes will be interred at Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, Nebraska.
