Peter Stanley Gavel
Peter S. Gavel, 83, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026. Born on April 5, 1943, in Stamford, Connecticut, Pete was the beloved son of Stanley Gavel and Winifred Unnever. He lived a life defined by devotion to family, enduring friendships, professional success, and a passion for golf.
Pete is lovingly remembered by his wife of more than 50 years, Nancy Gavel; his son, Thomas Gavel; and his cherished grandchildren, Thomas and Kenna Gavel.
Pete attended the University of Tampa for three years before graduating from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. During his time at the University of Tampa, Pete proudly pledged Sigma Phi Epsilon. The bonds he formed with his fraternity brothers became the foundation for many lifelong friendships that he treasured throughout his life.
Pete built a long and successful career in the commercial insurance industry, serving as an Account Executive and ultimately earning the title of Senior Vice President. He was respected not only for his professionalism and leadership, but also for his warmth and humor.
Many of Pete’s lasting friendships were formed during the countless hours spent commuting by train from Norwalk, Connecticut, to Manhattan, New York. Those daily rides became a source of camaraderie, stories, and friendships that endured for decades.
An avid golfer, Pete was known to occasionally close a business deal while “working” on the golf course. His love of the game led to four memorable holes-in-one over the years. Later in life, Pete shared his joy for golf with Nancy during their years together in Delray Beach, where they enjoyed many happy days on the course and with friends.
Pete was also a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team.
Pete will be remembered for his sense of humor, dedication to family and friends, and the many cherished memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
