Mitchell Alvin Bloom
February 12, 1956 – October 11, 2026
Mitchell Alvin Bloom, lovingly known as Mitch, Papa, Dumbo, Herman, and Mitchie Poo, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at the age of 70. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Mitch eventually made his home in Boca Raton, Fl. and Savage, MN, where he built a life centered around the people and things he loved most.
To know Mitch was to know someone who held a special place in the hearts of those around him. To his wife, Mona, he was a lifelong partner. To his daughters, he was Daddy. And to his grandchildren, he was the one and only Papa — a title that will forever carry a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Mitch had a personality and a presence all his own. His family will remember his love for New York, the Yankees, his favorite foods- Chinese buffet, Boca Ale House, a good knish, a song with a great drum solo and spending time with those he loved most. He knew his way around like nobody else, and was the person you could count on to get you where you needed to go. In fact, if Mitch was picking you up, you could be sure he would be there five minutes early. Being on time was important to him, and being there for his family was even more so.
Some of Mitch’s most treasured moments were spent being Papa. He loved going to dance recitals and swimming with Blair and Jacob; With Luke and Gino, he loved going to baseball, football, and basketball games, sharing in the excitement of the game and making memories they will carry with them for years to come. He was always a good sport for the many pranks that were pulled on him. Being their Papa was his favorite role!
Mitch also showed his love in the everyday ways that sometimes mean the most. He always looked after Mona, making sure he was there when she needed him. His love was found not only in the big moments, but in the familiar routines (getting her car washed, hanging curtains), the time spent together, and the comfort of knowing someone was always there. Those ordinary moments, which may have seemed small at the time, will become some of the most meaningful memories of all.
Above all else, family was at the heart of Mitch’s life. He is survived by his wife, Mona; his daughters, Leah Halvorson (Greg), and Elana Ismach (Scott); and his four cherished grandchildren, Luke (12) and Gino Halvorson (9) and Blair (7) and Jacob Ismach (5), who brought him immeasurable joy.
Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, Mitch’s love will continue to live on through his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. He will live on in the stories told around the dinner table and in the everyday moments when someone smiles and says, “That was so Mitch.”
