IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael
Egan
January 17, 1952 – September 14, 2013
Michael Edwards Egan, 61, passed away September 14th after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. Born in Springfield, Ohio, to the late Paul & Betty Egan, Mike's family moved to Miami in the early 1960s. A graduate of Miami Palmetto High School, Mike joined the US Air Force during the Vietnam War era and spent most of his tour of duty stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After being discharged from service, Mike graduated with honors from FIU, earning a Bachelor's degree in Political Science during the early years of his marriage. Working as an agent at an export company, Mike became a weekend warrior when he enlisted in the Air Force Reserves, and served four months stationed in Germany during Desert Storm. By then Mike was the father of two and a police officer with the City of Miami Police Dept. A true patriot and hero who was awarded many commendations as a police officer, Mike had a reputation as a kind and fair cop in the tough area of Overtown where he patrolled until illness caused him to reluctantly retire.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa, his precious daughters, Caroline (Steven) Filoramo, and Colleen, cherished grandsons, Stevie and Tony, treasured brothers John and Kevin (Donna) Egan, dear aunts Florence Stapleton and Joann Egan, devoted brothers-in-law Ed Powers and Dan (Christine) Powers, and loving nieces and nephews Sandee (Shane) Morris, Patrick, Katie, and Brian Egan, Daniel Powers, Kayleigh and Katelynn Funderburk, and Marley Morris.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. John Catholic Church, 10300 Yamato Rd., Boca Raton, FL on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at 12:00 noon, followed by burial at the South Florida National Cemetery on State Rd 7 in Lake Worth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St John Catholic Church at the address given above. If sending a check, please indicate on the memo line either "CHOIR" or "BUILDING FUND."
