Mary Lou Meehan
August 24, 1938 – December 27, 2024
Mary Lou Meehan, 85, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 27, 2024. Born on August 24, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, Mary Lou lived a life filled with love, passion, and adventure.
A gifted cook, Mary Lou's culinary skills were legendary among family and friends. Her Italian feasts were unparalleled, and her meatballs, better than any restaurant's, became a cherished family tradition. Holidays at her home were a celebration of food and love, with Mary Lou at the heart of it all.
Mary Lou's greatest passion was horseback riding. From her teenage years to age 60, she dedicated her time to the barn, forming lifelong friendships and cherished memories. Among her proudest moments was winning the championship ribbon at a horse show, a memory she held close to her heart. Her love for animals extended to her beloved dogs, who were her constant companions wherever she went.
Mary Lou built a fulfilling career as a ticket agent for the airlines, a role that ignited her love of travel. Alongside her husband, Jack, to whom she was married for over 60 years until his passing in 2022, she explored the world. Together, they created memories in countless destinations, with a three-week African safari standing out as their favorite adventure. A lover of history, Mary Lou enjoyed reading about past presidents, kings, and queens, and she often visited the places she had read about, collecting treasures that she seamlessly integrated into her beautifully decorated home.
In her later years, Mary Lou found peace on her lanai, reading by the soft glow of evening light while listening to Pavarotti, Tony Bennett, and Frank Sinatra. She cherished her family, having had three children and four grandchildren who will forever remember her warmth, wisdom, and love.
Mary Lou's life was a testament to the beauty of living fully and passionately. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mary Lou's memory to a local animal shelter or equestrian organization.
Family will receive friends Friday, January 3, 2025, 1-3pm with a 3pm funeral service at the funeral home.
