Mary Elizabeth
Long
April 15, 1938 – May 17, 2020
Mary Long, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and a devoted and loving wife, passed away May 17, 2020 in Boca Raton, Florida, surrounded by her family. Mary was born and raised in Springfield Massachusetts, the oldest of five siblings. In 1959, she married H. Thomas Long, the love of her life. After their marriage, Tom was commissioned as an officer in the US Air Force. Mary enjoyed being an officer's wife and the adventure that the lifestyle had to offer. During this time they gave birth to three sons - Tom, Chris, and Kevin. Together, they traveled across Europe and the United States finally retiring to South Burlington, Vermont in 1981.
Mary was known for her love of life and her wonderful sense of humor. She was always in a good mood, joking and laughing. Mary always put others before herself and loved helping with her family and the community. She was a frequent volunteer at school and an enthusiastic cheerleader for her kids activities. Her children became active in competitive swimming, Boy Scouts and she was active in the PTA.
As her kids got older, Mary went back to work at Community Bank (at the time, Merchants Bank) in South Burlington, Vermont. She received numerous accommodations and quickly was promoted to senior bank teller, then branch manager before retiring. Mary enjoyed the snowbird lifestyle traveling from Vermont to Florida every winter.
Mary is survived by her husband of 61 years, Tom, three sons Tom, Chris, and Kevin (Mot, Sirch & Nivek) and their wives Sue, Tania, and Renu, eight grandchildren - Sarah, Jessie, Tommy, Ryan, Haley, Joseph, Alex, and Sahana, and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in passing by her mother Shirley Pease, her beloved sisters Patricia, Virginia and Mayona, and her grandson Jimmy.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 22, 2020, 10:00 to 11:00 am at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday, May 22, 2020, 12 pm noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the South Florida National Cemetery.
