Obituary

Mary Agnes Gribben, 97, of Cooper City, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025.

Born on December 8, 1927, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Bernard and Agnes (née Myles) Henne, Mary was civic minded and dedicated her life to caring for others both personally and professionally. She moved to South Florida ten years ago from Wheaton, Illinois, where she spent much of her life raising her family and serving her community.

A compassionate and skilled nurse, Mary worked for both the Veterans Administration and the Park Forest  Health Department in Park Forest, Illinois. Her commitment to helping others reflected her deep empathy, tireless spirit, and nurturing heart.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving children: Maureen (Roger) Petroff, Walter J. Gribben III, Michael (Egleé) Gribben, David (Reba) Gribben, Kathrine (Dale) Rakebrandt; eight cherished grandchildren; and five beloved great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her dear husband, Walter J. Gribben, Jr., in 1997.

Mary was a avid gardener who loved playing tennis and bridge, watching baseball games, and traveling. She was active in women's groups, the Nurses Club and she will be fondly remembered for her gentle kindness, unwavering care for others, and the warmth she brought to every room she entered.

A funeral mass will be celebrate Friday, November 21, 2025, 11am at Nativity Catholic Parish, 5220 Johnson St, Hollywood, FL 33021. Mary will be laid to rest Friday, November 21, 2025, 2pm beside her husband at the South Florida VA National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida.

Her legacy of love and compassion will live on through the many lives she touched.
