IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ludwig R
Siegl
May 6, 1926 – July 16, 2025
Ludwig Siegl loved well and was loved by all who knew him. He was a kind and wonderful man with a fun sense of humor. He was born in Vienna, Austria and grew up in an artistic household where he learned to draw, photograph, and play the recorder from his composer father. His talents in engineering were encouraged and his first job was repairing radios for family and friends. Ludwig received his bachelors of mechanical engineering and his masters of electrical engineering from the Technische Universitat Wien (Technical University of Vienna).
After meeting his wife Theresia, they immigrated to London Ontario, Canada and then to Mansfield, Ohio where he began working on an early microwave at Westinghouse. He designed and built his own house, even the kitchen cabinets, doing everything with some help from his wife and father-in-law. He soon began working at Hartman Electric in Mansfield, Ohio and became Chief Engineer. His biggest achievement was designing and building a relay for all Saturn V moonshots. His relay was approved by Werner von Braun.
In 1969 Ludwig moved his family to South Florida where he joined IBM in Boca Raton until 1988 and worked on System 7 and Series/1 printers, He was Project Lead for the Bahia II printer and PRISCO (printer scanner copier) projects. He held patents, and invention awards. During his spare time, Ludwig was an avid scuba diver and shell collector, sharing fish and lobsters with his family and friends. Throughout his life, he also planned vacations for his family all over the US and abroad.
After retiring he spent time fishing, gardening, and researching natural health therapies. He was always eager to help people with anything they needed, whether helping Aurora with homework, explaining documents for friends and family, or fixing anything for anyone.
Ludwig, 99, is lovingly survived by his wife of 74 years, Theresia Siegl, and his daughter Aurora Siegl, his nephew Bob Gallik and his wife Brenda and their 3 children Brian, Tiffany and Ashley, his cousin Herman Schwaner, his niece Hannelore Eggeman, and all other family members and many friends. He is joined in heaven by his sister Eleonora, who turned 100 in December 2024.
Auf wiedersehen, dear Ludwig. We will see you again.
