Louis Joseph Piller Jr. July 18, 1936 – April 20, 2026
Louis Joseph Piller Jr., lovingly known as “Grandpa,” of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away on April 20, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on July 18, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to Louis Joseph Piller Sr. and Dorothy Gomel, Lou lived a full, vibrant life defined by service, humor, and deep love for his family and friends.
A proud United States Marine, Lou went on to serve as a dedicated New York City detective and later continued his career with the City of New York Law Department as a private investigator. He carried strength, integrity, and a sharp wit throughout his life. He was a man who showed up—for his country, his community, and most importantly, for his family.
Lou was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Wade and MaryAnn Baclini. He is survived by his siblings James Piller, George Piller, Thomas Piller, Steven Piller, Lawrence Piller, and Marybeth Piller.
He was the beloved husband of Patricia Piller (Keough), with whom he shared 68 years of marriage, and a devoted father to Susan, Gerard, Mary Lou Stumpf (Bill), and Kevin (Concetta).
His legacy lives on through his 12 grandchildren—Jesse, Denise, Alexis, Katie, Bridget, Ryan, Ida, Joseph, James, Michael, Gianna, and Charly—along with 10 great-grandchildren, as well as his many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Lou was a faithful member of St. Lucy Catholic Church, where he served as both an usher and a Eucharistic Minister. At his parish, he was affectionately known as “Bingo Bob.” To his friends, he was “Uncle Lou,” always ready with a story, a laugh, or a strong opinion. To his family, he was simply “Grandpa”—the heart of the room, the voice you could always count on, and the one who made sure everyone felt loved.
Lou had a passion for collecting sports cards—baseball, football, basketball, and hockey—and took great pride in his collection. He loved going out on the town, enjoyed a good party, and cherished being surrounded by the people he loved most. He also shared a special love for 35 years of bocce at the Breezy Point Surf Club, where he built lasting friendships and countless memories. His presence was larger than life, and his absence will be deeply felt.
He will be remembered for his toughness, his humor, his loyalty, and the incredible love he gave so freely.
Family will receive friends Thursday, May 7, 2026, 10am-10:30am at the church with a 10:30am funeral mass with military honors at St. Lucy Catholic Church, 3510 S Ocean Blvd, Highland Beach, FL 33487. Burial will follow at the South Florida VA National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in his memory.
He was a legend who will be sorely missed.
