Lloyd Henry Zubrod December 27, 1915 - April 25, 2006

Lloyd Henry Zubrod, 90, died April 25, 2006 at Fawcett Hospital in Port Charlotte, Florida with Hospice care. Lloyd was born on December 27, 1915, the son of Frank and Clara (Linkemeyer) Zubrod at home in North Washington, Chickasaw County, IA. He is survived by his loving wife, Wilma M. nee Blanchard of 62 years, beloved sons Robert L. (Jannette) of Ionia, Roy F. (Rebecca) of Iowa City, adoring daughters, Nancy L. (Ronald) Panoch of Punta Gorda, FL., Beverly C. (Roger) Schwickerath of New Hampton, thirteen grandchildren Allen Zubrod, Cheryl Colasch, Dawn Wilber, Sanya Maerschalk, Wanita Kilcollins, Virginia Pascual, Jake Zubrod, Susie Panoch, Karen Panoch, Gary Panoch, Dean Schwickerath, Nick Schwickerath, Jennifer Kellogg and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He was Preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mabel (Barr) Linkemeyer, first wife Hazel (Houser) Zubrod, baby daughter, Joan and grandson Bruce Zubrod. Lloyd attended school through 8th grade at St. Marys in North Washington, then stayed home to help his parents farm. In 1938, he married Hazel Houser. Hazel and their baby daughter, Joan, died in a car accident in which Lloyd and his son, Robert, survived. Lloyd purchased his parents farm in 1944 and married Wilma M. Blanchard in 1945. He farmed until he retired at the age of 70. For the past 20 years, he has managed his farms. His hobbies were his love for farming, hunting, fishing and flying his airplane. Lloyd purchased his first plane in 1947 and was the first flying farmer in Chickasaw County. He loved giving the neighbor children rides including a group of students from St. Marys Catholic School. Because of his love of farming, he was very active in the Farmers Union and the National Farmers Organization in the 1950's & 1960's. Lloyd and Wilma spent their winters in Punta Gorda, FL. for the past 22 years. Lloyd will be fondly remembered for his gifted ability to play any type of key board and his love of the card game Euchre. He will be greatly missed by his wife Wilma, his four Children and their familys. Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church in North Washington where he was a member.
