In loving memory of "Joe" Jose N. Quinones III

Joe, a beloved husband, step-father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on August 27, 2023, at the age of 77, in West Palm Beach, Florida.  He leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and a life well lived.

Born on July 3, 1946, Joe was raised on 10 acres in Homestead, Florida, the oldest of four boys. He graduated from South Dade HS and the University of Florida where he played on the baseball team. He got a degree in business and economics. Upon graduating, he joined the Air Force and earned the rank of Captain. He was sent to Guam and then to Japan where he was stationed over 2 years during the Vietnam War. His term in the service ended in Colorado where he decided to settle as he loved the outdoors and was an avid skier.

Joe was a remarkable individual known for his passion, dedication, and unwavering kindness to all who knew him. He enjoyed making people laugh and always had a smile on his face. He touched the lives of countless students, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts and minds. His commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as he also coached cross country and track, instilling a love for sports and healthy competition in the young athletes he mentored. Joe's zest for life was evident in his many pursuits. His enthusiasm for running led him to participate in 12 marathons, showcasing his determination and perseverance. His active lifestyle also included cycling and golf. Before he met Jean, he was an avid reader who collected thousands of books, and went to hundreds of book signings. He found solace in the pages of his books, and his love for reading was an inspiration to those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife and travel partner, Jean Mavroudis, who he met on a 3 week tour in China about 17 years ago. Her companionship brought immense joy to his life as their travels took them to all corners of the world for weeks and months at a time. Joe leaves behind step-children Deena Mavroudis and Tommy (Erica) Mavroudis. Step-grandchildren Brianna (John), Dean, Angelica and Theo, and five step-great-grandchildren: Noelle, Scarlet, Max, Brady and Gianna.  His brothers, Rick (Denise), and Jerry Quinones, andTony (deceased). His nephews Tim (Denisse) and Matt (Jared) and great-nieces Olivia and Ella Quinones.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimers Association, or to "Do Good to End ALZ" in honor of Joe's dedication to education and his compassionate spirit. As we bid farewell to Joe, let us carry forward his spirit of adventure, his passion for learning, and his capacity for love.  His legacy will forever remain in our hearts and in the lives he touched. Rest in peace, dear Joe.  Your memory will continue to inspire us all.

A gravesite service with full military honors will be held at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 State Road 7, Lake Worth, Florida 33449 on September 29, 2023 at 2pm.
