Jonathan Lee “Jon” Reigrod, 77, of Boca Raton, Florida, died on September 26, 2026, after a long battle with cancer.Jon was born on June 13, 1949, in Stamford, New York, to Dr. David and Beatrice Reigrod. He grew up in Yonkers, New York, with his older brother, Robert “Bob,” and his sister, Susan. At about 17, Jon moved with his family to California, where he completed his final two years of high school.Acting was one of Jon’s early passions. He studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in Manhattan, where he trained in the Meisner technique. After moving to California, he continued to pursue acting, eventually becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild and appearing in a few films. His natural sense of humor also led him to try his hand at stand-up comedy. It was during his years in California that Jon became a close family friend of comedian George Carlin and his family, a relationship that began when the families were neighbors in Los Angeles. George and his wife, Brenda, came to regard the much-younger Jon almost as a younger brother, while their daughter, Kelly, grew up thinking of him as an older brother. That close relationship endured throughout Jon’s life.Jon eventually made Boca Raton, Florida, his home, living there for approximately 35 years. In Boca, he worked in direct-mail advertising sales with Avro.Anyone who knew Jon knew that sports were much more than a casual interest. He was a passionate fan with an extraordinary memory for baseball and boxing statistics and could seemingly summon facts, records and numbers from years past. His boyhood baseball hero was Willie Mays, and Jon grew up rooting for the New York Giants. After the Giants moved to San Francisco, he eventually became a devoted New York Mets fan. Muhammad Ali was his favorite boxer, and in football, his loyalty belonged to the New York Giants.Jon was equally passionate about old movies. A true classic-film buff, he loved the films and stars of an earlier era, with Humphrey Bogart holding a special place as his favorite actor. But acting, sports and movies tell only part of Jon’s story. He was kind, funny and wonderfully irreverent, with a distinctive sense of humor that remained very much a part of who he was throughout his life. Above all, he was deeply connected to his family. He remained very close to his brother and sister and to their families, relationships that were an important and enduring part of his life.Jon is survived by his older brother, Robert “Bob” Reigrod and his wife, Sylvia, of Park City, Utah, and Bob’s children, Sandi and Don, and their families; his sister, Susan Goodman and her husband, Barry, of Austin, Texas, and their children, Greg and Alison, and their families; and his former wife and longtime friend, Lorraine Kennedy. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. David and Beatrice Reigrod.Jon will be remembered for his kindness, his irreverent sense of humor, his remarkable storehouse of sports knowledge, his love of old movies, and, above all, his devotion to his family and the people who were important to him.Services will be private.“Here’s looking at you, kid.”
