John Francis Buhager

John Francis Buhager, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on December 15, 1928, in Plainfield, New Jersey, he was the beloved son of Anthony and Catherine (née Colacci) Buhagiar.

John lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion to his family, faith, and country. He proudly served in the United States Navy, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and discipline.

He is survived by his loving children, John M. (Andrea) Buhager and Jane (Elizabeth Chaviano) Buhager; his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth Buhager and John P. Buhager; and his dear nieces and nephews, Tony (Faith) Buhager, Susan (RB) Areola, and Jimmy (Howard Taub) Buhager.

John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa, with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage, his brother, Anthony Buhager and sister-in-law Elizabeth Buhager.

In his younger years, John enjoyed playing golf and remained active as an avid runner, completing many races including the New York City Marathon twice. He found great joy in reading, listening to music—especially big band, jazz and classical—and spending time with loved ones. A man of faith, John served as an usher at Ascension Catholic Church for many years, a role he carried out with pride and dedication.

John will always be remembered as a sharp dresser with a great sense of humor, a man who loved to dance with his wife, and someone whose kindness and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He was truly loved by all who knew him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Ascension Catholic Church. John will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Theresa, at Boca Raton Cemetery.

His legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
