Jane Elizabeth Davis, 78, died December 5, 2014 in Boca Raton, FL surrounded by all her children as she succumbed to Cancer. She was a 74 year resident of Louisville, KY who recently relocated to Delray Beach, FL.
She was born May 26, 1936 in Glasgow, Kentucky, daughter of the late Margaret Marcum and Charles E. Davis. She was a graduate of Shawnee High School, class of 54, and studied music and arts at Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO. She had a long and successful career as an interior designer taking on a wide variety of projects from houses, offices, hospitals, planes, and tour bus … to dorm rooms. She made the world a better place in an aesthetic sense and through the sheer force of her vibrant, strong, and uninhibited personality. She worked at Porter Paints in St. Matthews, Duncan Wall Coverings on Shelbyville Road and Seaton House Interior in Jeffersontown. She closed out her career as an independent design consultant and specifier.
While raising four children she was active in supporting youth education, arts, and sports. She served as president of the Zachary Taylor Elementary PTA, Room Mother, Set Designer for children's plays, and she made significant contributions to the sports booster club of Mother Good Council Catholic Church.
She was active in the Women's Auxiliary of the KY National Guard.
She was a formidable foe in the world of online Scrabble. Jane also loved a good debate on national affairs and the issues of the day. She staunchly advocated personal responsibility, a respect for freedom, and the free market. She took pride in her pursuit to master the challenges of modern technologies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 55 years, Raymond J. Schaftlein, and a brother, William E. Davis.
She is survived by her children, Mark D. Schaftlein, and his girlfriend, Giselle Serrano of Highland Beach, FL, Timothy E. Schaftlein and his wife, Cynthia and their children, Christopher and Eryk of Lodi, CA, Charles "Joseph" Schaftlein of Louisville, and a daughter, Shari Margaret Schaftlein, and her husband, David H Johnson of Alexandria, VA, and two brothers Jack and Bob Davis.
Her Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 13 at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road in "St. Matthews" with burial to follow at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 Friday at Rattermans. A Celebration of her life will be held 4 to 8 Saturday at Hunting Creek Country Club, 6807 Foxcroft Road, Prospect. KY 40059.
Memorial donation in Jane's memory may be made to St. Albert the Great parish, Attention Pastoral Care, 1395 Girard Drive, Louisville, 40222.
