Obituary

James W. Johnson Sr. (Jimbo or Pops) 80, a resident of Coconut Creek, was called to Heaven on Jan. 16, 2022.

James Was Born July 11, 1941 to parents  Ralph Daniel Johnson Sr. & Estella Mae Johnson in Sugar Ridge, Ohio, a suburb of Bowling Green, Ohio. James was the 3rd of 4 children of Ralph & Estella. He graduated from Belle Glade High School in Belle Glade, FL Class of 1961. He was called into the service of our country through the Selective Service, joining the United States Army on June 3, 1964, was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC for the entirety of his service.

Upon discharge, he returned to FL and became the manager of Royals Dept. Store. There he met his 1st wife, Mary Louise Wilson, a customer shopping in his store. They were married in Nov. 1970 & produced 1 child, James W. Johnson II. They divorced 4 yrs later, & he moved back to Belle Glade, where he met his 2nd wife, Barbara Ann Dawson, at the local bowling alley. They married & had a child, Curtis Patrick Johnson. He took work as a field supervisor in the Sugarcane industry to support his growing family. This also ended in divorce 10 yrs later. James left the sugarcane industry & moved back together Okeechobee in 1984, taking work as a dairy foreman for Larson Dairy. He worked there until becoming disabled in an accident on the dairy.

Upon his disability retirement, he enjoying spending time at the local bowling alley, Stardust Lanes, as he had been an avid & quite a good bowler in his youth. He also enjoyed going to the local flea market, as he had a keen eye spotting a good deal, & turning one man's trash into another man's treasure.

As age & health related issues began to catch up with James, in 2002 he moved to the Deerfield/Coconut Creek area to live with his son, James II, who became his caregiver.

He continued to enjoy his retirement, going to movies, the Swap Shop, & local wrasslin' matches.

James was a great western aficionado, being a big fan of John Wayne, & loved to watch old westerns movies & shows. Particular favorites of his were Gunsmoke, Cheyenne, High Chaparral, Big Valley, & Bonanza.

James is survived & lovingly remembered by his oldest son, James W. Johnson II(Coconut Creek) & nephews Danny Johnson & wife Cindy (Alabama), & Terry Johnson (Alabama), & a niece, Rebecca Williams (nee Hawkins) (Tennessee), as well as a host grand nieces & nephews.

His was predeceased by Ralph D. Johnson Sr. (Father), Estella Mae Johnson(nee Staler)(Mother), Ralph D. Johnson Jr.(brother), Betty Hawkins(nee Johnson)(sister), Sandra Perkins(nee Johnson)(sister), Randy Johnson(nephew), & Curtis Patrick Johnson(son).

There are no funeral services, as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project or to DAV.
