Howard Brassner left this life far too early on September 15, 2021. The son of Jules Brassner
and Edna Weissman, Howard leaves behind his wife of over 50 years, Susan Brassner, and
son, Aaron (Laynie), daughter Heather (Jennifer), grandchildren Jennifer and Max, and
long-time partner Barbara Womelsdorf and her children Rylea and Roger; to whom Howard was
like a father. He is preceded in death by both his parents and his brother, Todd Brassner.
Howard was born in Manhattan and grew up in Harrison. He spent much of his adult life as an
art dealer and mortgage banker in New York and New Jersey. In 1996 he moved to south
Florida where he joined forces with his father, Jules, to found Artlink International Gallery in
Lake Worth. Howard was a force of nature in the art world. He represented some of the
country's most prominent artists and was internationally recognized as one of the nation's
foremost art dealers; dealing in everything from Renoir to Warhol. Additionally, Howard was
pivotal in putting The Florida Highwaymen on the map; producing two PBS aired documentaries
on the group of outsider artists and facilitating the art movement's most acclaimed book.
Howard had twinkling, mischievous eyes and a larger-than-life personality. He lived life on his
own terms and bent a few rules along the way. Unlike many of his stature, Howard eschewed
the trappings of wealth and sought out a simpler existence for himself. A self-affirmed
workaholic, he was generous to a fault. Over the years, Howard cared for and helped countless
people who crossed his path and never met a stranger. He will be missed by his family and
friends.
