Hermoine D’Cruz, 90, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026.

Hermoine was born on April 13, 1936, in Rajasthan, India, to Agnes and Francis Martin. At the age of 28, she bravely came to the United States with her family to build a better life. Through determination, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to others, she created a life dedicated to education, faith, family, and service.

Hermoine began her career as a Montessori teacher at Young Scholar Montessori in Staten Island, NY, before opening her own preschool, where she helped countless children grow academically and personally. Her passion for education continued throughout her life. She taught at Coral Sunset Elementary and was honored as Teacher of the Year for Broward County Schools. She spent the later years of her teaching career at Quiet Waters Elementary School in Deerfield Beach, where she taught second and third grade.

Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. A deeply devout Catholic, Hermoine shared her faith generously with those around her and worked tirelessly to instill those beliefs in her children, grandchildren, and loved ones. Her devotion was reflected in a lifetime of active service to the Catholic Church and to causes close to her heart.

Hermoine served as an usher at Ascension Catholic Church in Boca Raton and was a religious education teacher at Emmanuel Catholic Church in Delray Beach, where she also organized and led the May Queen Procession. She was involved with Right to Life and Birth Line/Life Line, supporting the protection of life and assistance to mothers and children. She was a former Vice President of Lyria of the Legion of Mary, a member of the Women of God at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, and, earlier in her life in India, served as President of the Junior Praesidium of the Legion of Mary.

Throughout her life, Hermoine volunteered countless hours to her church and community and made numerous pilgrimages. Her faith was not simply something she practiced—it was something she lived each day through her service, generosity, compassion, and love for others.

Beyond her professional and spiritual life, Hermoine will be remembered for her warm heart, her devotion to her family, her love of cooking, watching tennis, and cheering for her Miami Heat team. Her meals brought people together, creating memories that her family will treasure for generations.

Hermoine is survived by her loving daughters, Vanessa Gama and Beverly Blakeslee; her siblings, Francis Martin, Marie Guzman, John Martin, and Cynthia Martin; her grandchildren, Brett Blakeslee and Reid Blakeslee; and her great-granddaughter, Aliyah Blakeslee. She was predeceased by her first husband, Michael Gama; her second husband, Ferdinand, with whom she shared 33 years of marriage; and her brother, Oscar Martin, and sister, Betty Fernandes.

Hermoine leaves behind a lasting legacy of faith, education, perseverance, service, and love. From the children she taught and the families she helped to the churches and causes she served, her influence touched generations. Her unwavering faith and generous spirit will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, students, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Emmanuel Catholic Church in Delray Beach, Florida. Burial will follow at Delray Beach Memorial Gardens Municipal Cemetery.
