Obituary

Gertrude was born on May 29, 1924 to Mae and William Van Beck. They lived in Ridgewood, New York. Gertrude had a sister but she was only on earth a short time.
While living in Ridgewood she was very lucky to play and grow up with the wonderful man she would one day marry, Ernst Speiser. Gertrude and Ernie married on April 15, 1944 while he was in the Coast Guard. They continued to live in Ridgewood. Fortunately, since he played on the Coast Guard baseball team he was able to come home often and they could spend time together.
Their luck continued as their daughter Sue Ann was born and then their daughter Judy.
Following the war the Speiser Family moved to Baisley Park and then Kings Park.
Gertrude worked outside the home for a bit but she loved being a wife, mother, and home maker and chose to stay home with Sue Ann and Judy.
Following retirement Gert and Ernie moved to Florida to be near Judy, their son in law Angelo and their grandchildren Tammy and Brian. They were all extremely close and spent a lot of time together making memories and having fun. Gert and Ernie would travel to NY occasionally to see Sue Ann, her husband, and their grandchildren Michael, Thomas, Kevin, and Kerri. As the years went on, great grand children were blessed to be born into this family and call Gert "Nan".
Gert loved people and people loved her. Her circle of friends was wide. She connected with everyone she met.
She loved doing crafts and crocheting. While making beautiful things, she would socialize and make friends. She was glad to share her skills and taught classes. She used her talents to give to others. She not only crocheted blankets and sweaters for her family but she also crocheted hats for premature babies born at a local hospital.
She had an abundance of friends. She played cards and bingo. People loved to be around her. She taught her grandkids and great grand kids card games and played and laughed with them late into the night.
Gertrude Speiser left behind a loving husband of seventy years. Theirs is probably one of the greatest love stories not told but lived out for their family and friends to admire and learn from.
She also left behind her loving daughter Judy and son in law Ang, grand children and great grand children. Friends and loved ones will miss her. All who loved her, whether as Gertrude, Gert, Mom or Nan should find peace in the knowledge that when she got to Heaven Sue Ann was there to meet her along with her parents and sister.
