In Memoriam: Gary Edward McClain

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Edward McClain, who departed this world on December 14, 2023, in Delray Beach, Florida, at the age of 86.

Born on November 3, 1937, in Lima, Ohio, Gary McClain was a distinguished individual who touched the lives of many.

He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green University and went on to become a respected figure in the accounting field, serving as the past president of the Florida Association of Independent Accountants, both local and state chapters. Gary was also an IRS enrolled agent and tax preparer.

Gary was not only a man of professional distinction but also a devoted family man. He spent many cherished years sailing and boating alongside his beloved wife, Captain Marie, their family, and friends. Gary had a passion for cooking, sharing his love through the creation of countless memorable meals.

Gary McClain was predeceased by his father, Wilbur McClain, mother, Helen Ballinger McClain, daughters Beverly Eavenson and Chris McClain, son Gary McClain Jr., and stepson Richard Roy. Despite these profound losses, his memory lives on in the hearts of those who survive him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Marie Boudreau Roy McClain, and sister Diane McClain of St. Petersburg, FL. Additionally, he is survived by stepchildren Cathryne La Ferrara (Delray Beach, FL), Rob (Mary) Roy (Lakeland, FL), Terri (Bill) Mears (Loxahatchee, FL), Ron (Meloney) Roy (Coral Springs, FL), and Cheryl Laber (Robbins, NC).

Gary is also remembered by his grandchildren Nancy Harkner (Vancouver, WA), Stacy Gauthier (Dover, DE), Kathryn Shelato (Midwest City, OK), and step-grandchildren Tina Balentine (Lakeland, FL), Rob (Chrissi) Roy III (Auburndale, FL), Kate Tremblay (Lakeland, FL), Billy Oldag (Whispering Pines, NC), Sean Flynn (Pompano Beach, FL), Cody Oldag (Aberdeen, NC),  Dr. Amanda Roy (Atlanta, GA), Tiffany Roy (Ledgewood, NJ), Michael (Raquel) Roy (Winter Haven, FL), Tyler Peterson (Whispering Pines, NC), Travis (Demmy) Peterson (Shaw AFB, SC), and their families.

Gary's legacy is further enriched by his extended family of 17 great-grandchildren.

As we bid farewell to Gary Edward McClain, let us remember the joy he brought into our lives and the indelible mark he left on those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Family will receive friends Saturday, January 27, 2024, 10am to 12pm with funeral services starting at 11am at Gary Panoch Funeral Home, 6140 North Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL. A reception to follow 12pm to 3pm at Pelican Harbor Club House, 475 Pelican Way, Delray Beach, FL.
