Eleutheria (Ethel) Vasilopoulos of Boca Raton, Florida, died peacefully on April 26, 2026, in her home. She was born in Athens, Greece on March 24, 1942, to Constantinos and Maria Andreakos (nee Vlahakos), one of eight children. Both her parents passed away when Eleftheria was a teenager. Despite the financial and emotional havoc this wreaked on her and her siblings, Eleutheria took to heart the value of education her parents had instilled in her, continued her studies, and earned a high school degree, a remarkable accomplishment for an orphaned, young woman in her time, in that place. After graduation, she gained employment as an administrative assistant in a shipping company. In the summer of 1970, she met her beloved husband Pantelis Vasilopoulos, who was in Greece at the time, vacationing. Two years later, following a long-distance romance involving much letter-writing, Pantelis returned to Greece and he and Eleutheria married. They arrived in New York on Thanksgiving Day, 1972. They remained in the United States, living and working proudly as immigrants, the rest of their lives. Eleutheria and Pantelis were unwaveringly devoted to each other during their forty-five year marriage, until his death in 2017.
Eleutheria was a devout Greek Orthodox Christian. She was an expert at preparing delicious and nutritious meals. She was an avid reader of all types of literary genre. Eleutheria was also a broad-minded political and social thinker.
Eleutheria was preceded in death by her husband Pantelis, her brothers Nicholas and George, and her sisters Panagiota and Anna. She is survived by her sister Marina in Virginia, her brother Peter and his wife Lucia in New York, and her sister Katy in Athens. She has many cherished nieces and nephews in the United States and Greece.
Eleutheria was loved in life and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her. May her memory be eternal.
