Douglas Peter Barna, age 79 of Boca Raton, Florida passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at Hospice by the Sea, Boca Raton from complications from diabetes after a fall.

Doug was born on November 28, 1945, to Peter and Marie Barna (nee Saltamachia) in Passaic, New Jersey.

He received a B.S. degree in Business from Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford where he was past president of Phi Gamma Pi fraternity. He was a member of the Army Reserve as well as a proud New Jersey Kiwanis Club member. Doug started his career as an administrative analyst with IBM Corp., Fairfield, New Jersey and retired after a long career in debt recovery services.

Doug was married to Nancy Marie Viviano and later to Norma Fitzsimmons. He was a caring family member, within his own large Ukrainian Italian family and with extended family members. At the end of his life, he was a devoted partner to Janice Szemkus, who fought a valiant battle with breast cancer before succumbing to the disease in April, 2025.

Doug was a fun-loving person, always ready to share a joke or story with family and friends. He was a proud American and enjoyed the camaraderie and teamwork of being a part of organizations he believed in. He will be dearly missed.

Cremation through Gary Panoch Funeral Homes with burial to be arranged at Calvary Cemetery, Patterson at a future date.
