Obituary

Cormac "Mac" Conahan of Boca Raton, FL passed away at home on January 20, 2022. He was 74 years old.

Mac was born on May 31, 1947 in Brussels, Belgium to Cormac F. and Caroline "Carol" Conahan, where his father worked for Pan American Airlines. He was the youngest of 4 children, all of whom survive him (in their 80's). He grew up on Long Island and earned a masters in economics at Harpur College in Binghamton, NY, THE premier public university of its day. He came to his senses, escaped the blizzards of Binghamton and moved to the University of Florida for law school.

While at UF, he met the love of his life, Linda Ann Davis. They were married in 1977 and took up residence in Boca Raton, FL where they spent the last 44 years together loving each other and raising their family.

He started his law practice at Mateer and Harbert in Orlando but he had his eye on a small town in South Florida, Boca Raton (that rhymes with Al Capone) and he joined the city attorney's office in 1976. He loved the City of Boca. He believed in its vision to grow a well-planned and beautiful community and he was a big part of that development. He later went into private practice but he was always involved in the City--for more than 40 years he devoted a big part of his life to assisting the functioning of the City of Boca Raton. He served on the City Council, was Deputy Mayor, represented the Planning and Zoning Board and the Builder's Board of Adjustment. He was a Special Magistrate for the City and for Palm Beach County. He was attorney for the Community Redevelopment Agency and a member of the Charter Revision Commission. Most of his service was pro bono. He donated his Council Member stipend to charity.

He is a past president of the South Palm Beach County Bar Association. His representation of clients took him to all parts of the world. He handled real estate acquisitions from Fort Pierce to Hawaii, to St. Barts, to Australia, Paris and Monaco. He worked for his longtime client in London, Ireland, Scotland, and Malta. He was outrageously intelligent and a true legal and business counselor and advisor. He was that rare breed that could put all the pieces together from numerous disciplines.

Mac was a true renaissance man. He was passionate about learning, tennis, all things French, and his children – Cormac and Caitlin. He was immensely proud of them.

He was a generous man who gave quietly. He needed no recognition. He had lifelong friends from high school and college. He lived a charmed and wonderful life. He literally traveled around the globe.

He fought courageously until the very end. He was a fighter and he did not want to give up.

Mac will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife, Linda of 44 years; his children Cormac D. Conahan (Bethany) and Caitlin E. Conahan; brothers and sister Don de Lambert of Hackettstown, NJ, Richard de Lambert of Bluffton, SC, and Diane McNew (Glenn) of Bluffton, SC; sister-in-law Sylvia Cain (Mark) of Jacksonville, FL; nephew Wayne Cain (Tiffany) of Macclenny, FL; niece Beth Cartwright (Dick) of Stony Brook, NY; nephew Scott McNew (Joelle) of Texas and numerous other great nephews, nieces and cousins.
