Charles Douglas (Doug) Wheeler, 80, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on August 25, 1944, in Muncie, Indiana, Doug led a life defined by courage, service, and love.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Doug served his country with honor during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Bronze Star for heroic service. His commitment to duty and unwavering bravery marked a legacy that inspired those who knew him.
Doug was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Wheeler, with whom he shared 51 cherished years together. He is survived by his loving children: Patsy (Michael) Merrell-Davis, Ryan (Kim) Wheeler, Melissa (Bobby) Gockman and Angela Wheeler, his grandchildren; Christian, Hunter, Noah, Jackson, Charles Robert, Charles Michael, Jackie, Katie, Kayla, Amanda, Alexis, Dylan, Emmy and Scarlett, his siblings; David and Wendy, eight wonderful sister and brother-in-laws, twenty-one nieces and nephews, sixty-eight great nieces and nephews and seventeen great great nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Rosanna Wheeler and his brother-in-laws, Bill Potter and Jim Hendrickson.
A resident of Boca Raton for many years, Doug was known for his quiet strength, kind heart, and deep devotion to family. Whether cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting or school events or sharing his love of cars, Doug brought warmth, wisdom and laughter to every moment. A devoted Roman Catholic, Doug drew strength and purpose from his faith, which guided him throughout his life.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 from 5pm-7pm at the Gary Panoch Funeral Home in Boca Raton. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church on Friday August 8, 2025, at 1pm. Burial will follow the funeral mass at the Boca Raton Cemetery. A Celebration of Doug's Life will be held immediately following the burial.
