Athena F. Gilbride, 95, of Boynton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2024.She was born December 13, 1928, in Buffalo, NY. Growing up, Athena went to work in the family restaurant before school where she prepared 200 hamburgers for the lunch crowd. Later, Athena worked as a secretary at Western Electric where she met her husband, Thomas Vincent Gilbride and had two children; Christine Elaine and Thomas George. They lived in a two-family house above Athena's mother, Helen Faturos and Athena's seven siblings; Areti, Voula, Anna, Katherine, John and twins James and Arthur, until they married or moved away for work. It truly was a rich and bustling existence! Athena and Tom loved to walk and after Tom's retirement, they became mall walkers three times a week. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage until Tom's death on June 6, 2012. Athena will be remembered by her loving children; Christine and husband, Rick Moeller, grandchildren; Shane and Amy (Nee Steinman,) Emily Putnam Moeller, great-grandson, Reilly Putnam, Lydia and Mark Henderson, son Thomas and Suzanne (Nee Zenker,) grandchildren; Justin Robert and Mike Merida Lumen (Nee Tano,) and Amanda Nicole Lumen, great-grandchildren; Chloe Harumi, Olivia Reimi and Theo Yoshi Gilbride Lumen. Athena is also survived by brothers, John Faturos, James and wife Kathy, Arthur and wife Loretta, as well as many niece and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024, 10:30am at the South Florida VA National Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
