IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alexander
Hernandez
October 6, 1967 – February 29, 2020
Alexander, 'Alex,' Hernandez, of Aventura, Florida, an extraordinary and genuinely adored son, brother, fiance, and friend, died Saturday, February 29, 2020, of an acute cardiac event. He was 52. He was volunteering as a Ride Marshal in the Dolphins Cancer Challenge charity cycling event, as he had done since its inception.
Alex was a lifelong avid cyclist, competing, participating, and providing repeated successful crew support for many events like the 3000 mile ultra-distance Race Across America (RAAM) and the Dolphins Cancer Challenge.
After a severe car accident in his youth put a stop to his professional cycling career ambitions, he developed a passion for technology and computer networking that would eventually become his career. He would return to cycling again as a personal passion and he kept pedaling to his final breath.
Alex was also active in providing technical support to many Japanese anime conventions across Florida, and was on the board of directors of Mizucon.
Alex's far-reaching impact is reflected in the hundreds of messages and pictures on Facebook from the incredible friends he deeply touched. His kindness and selfless priority to help others are referenced time and time again.
Survivors include: his mother, Lucy Romero; brother, Ivan Hernandez; sister-in-law, Denise Ihrig-Hernandez; nephews Benjamin and Grant Alexander Hernandez; niece, Amy Hernandez; fiance, Deborah Long Lookabill; our family in Colombia, the extended U.S. family and the fellow cyclists and friends from whence he drew so much inspiration and love.
