Abilio “Tony” Antonio Jimenez, a man defined by strength, resilience, and an unwavering spirit, passed away on April 19, 2026.
Tony was born on February 25, 1962, in Panama to Filadelfia Cerrud and Abilio Jimenez Sr. He spent part of his early years in Peru, where he attended Leoncio Prado Military Academy, an experience that helped shape the discipline and determination that would guide him throughout his life.
He went on to proudly serve in the United States military for 16 years, demonstrating a deep commitment to his country. Following his service, Tony built a respected career as a repair technician, contributing his skills and expertise to major aerospace companies, including Smiths Aerospace, Goodrich Lighting, and Orbit Communications.
If one were to look up the meaning of an “indomitable human spirit,” they would find a description of endurance, courage, and the will to persevere against overwhelming odds. This definition captures Tony perfectly. Over the course of 346 days, he endured an extraordinary and relentless series of medical challenges, including multiple surgeries, a quadruple coronary bypass, ECMO and Impella support, painful pressure wounds, and repeated bouts of sepsis. Throughout it all, he remained confined to a hospital bed, rarely able to leave except for a brief moment in a recliner.
Tony’s character never wavered. Those who visited him were always met with his warm, charming smile, and despite his own suffering, he would ask about others first, showing a selflessness that defined his life. Even as Tony endured, he held to his faith in Jesus. As John 14:27 reminds us: ‘Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.’ Tony now rests in that peace, leaving us with the hope of reunion and eternal love.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Kristi, and his treasured son, Alex; his beloved sisters, Ita and Mely; his ever-caring mother-in-law, Louisa; his sister-in-law, brother-in-law, and niece, Jenna, Benji, and James who offered much comfort with steadfast support and prayers. Tony is also survived by other cherished extended family who offered meaningful, consistent support; father-in-law, David; his sisters-in-law, Heather, Shannon, Cathleen, Wendi, Carmen, and Nguyet; his brothers-in-law, Brian, Doug, Shawn, Danny, Scott, and Davy; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Tony’s life or a veterans’ tribute at a national cemetery will be held in the coming months, with details to follow.
Tony’s life stands as a testament to courage, love, and the enduring strength of the human spirit. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
