Patricia Frances (Bohl) Wilhelm

Patricia Wilhelm, 88, of Boca Raton, FL, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, formerly of Yonkers, NY, passed away on Thursday, October 26th supported and comforted by her family. Pat was born in Yonkers on May 17, 1930. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Walter and her daughter Maria McGinley. She is survived by her son Kurt and also leaves tow grandchildren; Mark McGinley and April McGinley. There are five great-grandchildren who will forever remember their beloved great-grandmother. April has two boys whose names are Robert and Riley and a daughter, Lola. Mark has a son, Aiden and a daughter named Ave. Her family was precious to her.

Pat served in the US Army from 1951 to 1954 and did a tour of duty in the Korean War. She was the first female Commander of the VFW. She loved to share her war stories and other details of her travels while in the Army.

Pat worked at the Leader Herald in Gloversville, NY where she first learned to love writing. After moving to South Florida in 1973, Pat worked at the Boca Raton News. After retiring from a career in journalism, Pat cultivated her love for children by babysitting.

She enjoyed current events and always openly expressed her opinion about politics and religion. Even though these are two sensitive issues that most people would shy away from discussing, this did not deter Pat.

Pat continued to love to read and write throughout her lifetime. She authored a book about her own childhood and growing up in New York. Her book was published.

Pat was active in the Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and volunteering where and when needed. She particularly had a soft spot for those less fortunate and the mission work of the Church.

Full military honors will be held followed by a funeral mass Wednesday, October 31, 2018, 11am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Pat will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in St. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown, NY in a private family ceremony.

Pat was always eager to help her family, friends and neighbors by offering a pleasant work of smile or simply extending friendship and will be remembered fondly by many of us.

Those wishing to honor her name may make a contribution to the mission work and trips sponsored by St. Joan of Arc.
