Marilyn Lillian Smith, age 82, of Pompano Beach, Florida, passed away on December 2, 2018. Born on April 28, 1936, Marilyn was raised in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. She attended college at the University of Rhode Island, earning a bachelor's degree in 1956 and working as a registered nurse at Rhode Island, Quincy City, and Nantucket Cottage Hospitals. She met the love of her life, Paul Smith, on Nantucket and they married in 1961. Marilyn became the loving mother of two daughters soon after, and she devoted the rest of her life to her family. Though they remained New Englanders at heart, Marilyn and Paul traded snow for sand and moved to Florida in the 1980s. They spent many summers in the Boston area, however, where Marilyn enjoyed taking day trips with her beloved husband, as well as antiquing and barbecuing with friends and family. Although her passions included reading, painting and knitting, Marilyn was happiest surrounded by her family and she struggled mightily after her beloved husband of fifty years passed away in 2012. We are profoundly grateful for the very rich life she led and that she has been reunited with her soulmate, Paul, and her parents, George Emile Lussier and Mary Cecilia McGawley. She is survived by her daughters, Pamela Smith of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Mary Frances Giandrea of Gaithersburg, Maryland, to whom she was devoted. Marilyn is also survived by son-in-law, Michael Giandrea, and grandson, David Giandrea, who knew her too briefly.
A funeral Mass in memory of Marilyn will be held on Saturday, December 8, at 11:30 am at St. Coleman's Catholic Church in Pompano Beach. There will be a visiting hour from 10 - 11 am on Saturday at the Gary Panoch Funeral Home, 6140 N. Federal Highway, Boca Raton, FL.
