Donald Horan

Donald Edward Horan Sr, 73, passed away unexpectedly January 17th, 2018 in Deerfield Beach, Fl.  He was born on April 1, 1944 in Troy, NY to the late Thomas and Irene Horan of Lansingburgh.  Donald proudly served his country as a brave U.S. Marine during the Vietnam War.  After serving his country, Don worked for almost twenty years at the Grand Union Warehouse and then went on to owning and operating a number of businesses which include Pizza Plus in Schuylerville, NY and Papa Don’s in Saratoga Springs, NY.   For many years Donald enjoyed living along the Hudson River, fishing and watching the beautiful wildlife until he retired to Deerfield Beach, Florida, where he met many wonderful people who became his second family.  Donald enjoyed going to the beach and spending time at the pool talking to his many friends. But most importantly, Donald cherished his time with his family, spending hours playing with his grandchildren being the best Papa there ever was! He loved his family coming to stay with him in Florida, vacationing with them at the beach, and spending the holidays with those he loved.  Don is lovingly remembered by all who met him, as someone with an extremely friendly and kind personality, who could make anyone smile, open up and talk, and bring people together.

Donald is survived by his children, Donald Horan Jr, Carrie (Geoffrey) Olson, D. Matthew (Jamie) Duesler, Bryan (Meri Jean) Horan, Stephen (Melissa) Horan, Kirk (Trisha) Horan, and Scott (Paulette) Horan.  In addition to his children, Donald is survived by 21 grandchildren; his brother, Thomas (Diane) Horan; and sisters Elizabeth Delucia and Lynn (Raymond) Lewis; many nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren; as well as many dear and close personal friends. Donald is predeceased by his sister, Shirlee Russo, and brother, Michael Horan.

It was Donald’s specific wish to not have a formal wake, but wanted his funeral to take place at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery near the Saratoga Battlefield.  The services will be open to all family and friends and will take place on January 26, 2017 at 2:30 pm.
