Angel Madera, 75, of Boca Raton, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018 with loving family and friends by his side.
Born May 27, 1942 in Aibonito, Puerto Rico to the late Pascual and Esperanza Madera, he was one of six children. Angel's family later moved to Brooklyn, New York where he attended the Alexander Hamilton Vocational High School. In High School Angel played baseball and was awarded major honor certificates in track and cross country for seasons 1959-1960. His yearbook slogan read, “He has wings on his feet,” and later went on to complete nine marathon events in New York and Puerto Rico. He was a boxer and loved all things boxing. His carpentry vocation was his life work and he retired as a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 2090. Angel was a model Patriot and proud of his Puerto Rican Heritage.
Few people come into your world and touch your life in a remarkable and special way. Angel was one of those people. His tough demeanor, straight-forward mannerisms, humor, and genuine concern for a persons’ well-being was felt by many. He believed we should support the ones we love, their personal choices, and create resolution, peace, and harmony for others. His selfless service to others can be traced back to his childhood, witnessed in his daily interaction with his local community, and his Life Honorary Membership with the Knights of Columbus, Catholic fraternal service organization. In February 1971, Angel was presented “Knight of The Month” from the Saint John the Baptist Church Brooklyn, New York, Council No. 4986, Knights of Columbus and continued volunteering with the Knights of Columbus at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Boca Raton, FL. His dedication to the Knights of Columbus spanned over 47 years.
He is survived by his wife, Noemi, of 56 years; two sons; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and is remembered by his relatives and friends. He dedicated his last few years to taking care of his beloved Noemi.
Angels family will receive friends Monday, May 28, 2018, 2-4 & 6-8pm at the funeral home. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 29, 2018, 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Boca Raton. Burial will follow at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, North Lauderdale, FL.
