Therese E (Terri) Scandirito, age 74, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 28, at her home in Boca Raton, FL after a long illness. She was survived by her husband of 49 yrs., Honorable Judge James (Skip) Scandirito (ret.) and her son, James II, of Ft Lauderdale. Terri was born in Larchmont, NY and raised in Shinnston, WV and Madison Hts, MI She owned several businesses, including an upholstery shop, dress shop, and a food dip business called Applause. She was also a realtor and a process server with the 41- B District Court in Mt. Clemens, MI for 8 years. She was active in state and local politics and attended the 1980 Democratic convention in NY City as a Ted Kennedy delegate in an unsuccessful attempt to unseat then Pres. Jimmy Carter for the Dem nomination. She also ran many judicial campaigns, including her husband's in 1990. In 1985 Terri founded and was the CEO of Square One Family Homeless Shelter, in Clinton Twp., MI ; she was known for her grace, style and dignity and was a fervent activist for all women's rights. All of the women at the family shelter later found employment and were living on their own, supporting their families. She counseled and worked tirelessly for disadvantage men and women and their families, alongside the Vietnam Vets of Macomb Co MI. After retirement to Florida in 2000, Terri was employed at the Cricket Shop in Delray Beach. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Ellen Secreto. In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by many cousins in OH, WV, and NY. A funeral mass for Terri Scandirito will be held Saturday, May 6 at 11:00 am at Ascension Catholic Church 5900 N Fed Hwy Boca Raton; In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Terri's honor to the American Lung Assoc . c/o www.lung.org/donate or Boca Helping Hands c/o www.bocahelping hands.org/donate.
