Laverne "Verne" A. Burch, died June 10, 2016 surrounded by his family, friends and a wonderful hospice nurse. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Vivian Lemke Burch. He is also survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Douglas Briggs, step-grandsons and their families: David, Kelly and Colin Briggs; and Chris and Jenny Briggs. Verne was born September 27, 1924 on a farm in Morrison, Illinois to Arthur Henry and Clara Myrtle Burch.
Two of his three siblings survive him: Burdette and Arnold Burch, and one sister-in-law, Jeannie Burch. His sister, Claire Rosene, predeceased him, as did two sisters-in-law May Burch and Lucille Lemke, and one brother-in-law, Howard Lemke. He is also survived by a large extended family of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great-great nephew. Verne served in the U.S. Army, 85th Infantry Division, in World War II. He graduated from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where he met and married the love of his life. For most of his working life, he was a lingerie salesman. He dealt poker for 10 years as his retirement job. Verne enjoyed horse- racing, playing cards and all of his pets throughout the years.A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, June 20, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, Boca Raton.
